Ghost Month, also known as Hungry Ghost Month, is a recurring phenomenon amongst Chinese-influenced families in the Philippines. It begins on the first day of the seventh lunar month and can be traced back to Buddhist and Taoist traditions practiced in Taiwan and China. For 2025, Ghost Month begins on the 23rd of August and ends on the 21st of September. It is during this time, the unseen world is believed to intertwine with the living. These spirits—often thought to be those who did not receive a proper burial or have unresolved matters—are said to bring misfortune, leading people to observe various customs to protect themselves from bad luck and negative energy.

While it is a widely practiced Chinese tradition it has become an integral part of Filipino culture. Families and businesses follow age-old practices to show reverence for their ancestors and preserve their heritage. A major custom is the avoidance of significant financial expenditures, as monetary losses are often attributed to spiritual disturbances—hence the name "Hungry Ghost Month." This belief carries over to the construction and design industry, where there is a noticeable slowdown during this period. Construction projects, home renovations, and significant interior design adjustments are usually avoided to prevent any spiritual disturbance.
